Theora
Projection design for a live theatre performance
{projection mapping, animation, script analysis, cue-sheet development}
Overview
Designing projection for a live performance
Theora is a six-minute theatre act about three ghosts trying to understand the death of Theora, a young woman whose memories remain fragmented after her death. I designed projection mapping to support the performance’s melancholic, dream-like atmosphere and to extend the story beyond the actors on stage.
The work combined animation, projection mapping, script analysis, and cue development. Rather than treating the projection as a separate visual layer, I developed it in relation to the narrative, stage action, and timing of the performance.

Development
Translating the script into projection
I began by analyzing the script and identifying moments where projection could reinforce the characters’ fragmented memories and the emotional shifts within the scene. Visual sequences were developed around the performance rather than independently, with imagery, movement, and transitions responding to the structure of the act.
I then organized the projections through cue sheets to coordinate the visual changes with the live performance. This process connected the animation work with the practical timing and sequencing required for the stage.
